Corfu Transportation Guide 2026 – How to Get Around the Island
Corfu offers several transportation options for visitors, from public buses to private chauffeurs. The best choice depends on your accommodation, budget, and how much of the island you want to explore. Here's everything you need to know about getting around Corfu.
Do You Need a Car in Corfu?
If you're staying at an all-inclusive resort and plan mostly beach days, you don't need a car. Pre-booked transfers for airport pickups plus occasional taxi trips will suffice. If you want to explore remote beaches, mountain villages, and hidden gems independently, a rental car gives you the most freedom. A middle option is hiring a private chauffeur by the hour for specific day trips.
Public Buses (KTEL Corfu)
Corfu's bus network has two systems: blue urban buses (serving Corfu Town and nearby areas) and green KTEL buses (serving the rest of the island). The main bus station is at San Rocco Square in Corfu Town. Routes serve major resorts like Sidari, Kassiopi, Paleokastritsa, and Acharavi, but frequencies are limited (2-4 times per day on most routes).
Taxis
Licensed taxis are available at ranks in Corfu Town, the airport, and the port. They use meters with official rates. Finding a taxi outside main areas can be difficult — there's no Uber or ride-hailing app in Corfu. For guaranteed transport, pre-book with a transfer company.
Private Transfers
Companies like Lasmari Cars offer pre-booked door-to-door transfers with fixed prices. This is the most reliable option for airport arrivals, port pickups, and special occasions. Also available as hourly chauffeur hire for sightseeing.
Car Rental
Widely available at the airport and in Corfu Town. An international driving permit may be required depending on your nationality. Roads in West Corfu (Paleokastritsa, Ermones) are narrow and winding — drive carefully. Parking in Corfu Town is very limited.
